Extra Credit: Diseases

Research a disease of your choosing.  You may use one from this list below or come up with one of your own:
  • Influenza
  • Measles
  • Smallpox
  • Ebola
  • Strep Throat
  • Staph Infection
  • Polio
  • Malaria

Write a ONE page HAND WRITTEN report about the disease.  Be sure to include:

– Type of microbe that causes the disease
-The origin of the disease (if known)
-How the disease spreads
-Symptoms of the disease
-Precautions and Prevention measures that can be taken

This assignment is worth up to 30 extra credit points

This assignment is Due Monday January 5th, 2015


Test Corrections: Microbes & Diseases

You were given back your Microbes and Diseases Unit test on Friday 12/19.  

You can earn back HALF credit for each question you got wrong by doing the following:

  1. Choose what the CORRECT answer should be.  You must write out the answer (NOT just put A, B, C, or D)
  2. Your choice:
    -Write a sentence explaining why your new answer is correct
    -Write a sentence explaining why your old answer was incorrect

Objective: To compare the plot of ‘Osmosis Jones’ to what I’ve learned about microbes and diseases.

    18th: What was one thing you liked about the exam?  What was one thing you disliked about the exam?  What is one thing you would change for our next exam?

    19th: Describe a scene from Osmosis Jones where the main character interacts with microbes. What was the microbe and how did it effect the body?

  2. Watch the Movie ‘Osmosis Jones’ and fill out The Microbiology of Osmosis Jones (45 minutes each day)

Objective: Describe a pandemic using the 1918 Flu as supporting evidence.

  1. Do NOW!
    Draw a picture and label each of the 4 different types of bacteria.

Homework: Pretend you are living in the year 1918.  Make an informational poster about the Spanish Flu.  Include precautions that people should take to avoid getting sick.  Pictures must also be on the poster.  It can be generated on the computer or hand made.
