OBJECTIVE: To determine how chemistry relates to society and my life.

  1. Do NOW!
  • What do all of the elements in the same PERIOD have in common?
  • What do all of the elements in the same GROUP have in common?
  • Draw a Bohr Model for K (Potassium).
    1. ¿Qué tienen todos los elementos en el mismo período tienen en común?
    2. ¿Qué tienen todos los elementos en el mismo grupo tienen en común?
    3. Dibuja un modelo de Bohr para K (potasio).
  1. Current Events- Chemistry –Jigsaw
    1. Students Read and annotated one of the following articles and answered Chemistry Current Events Guided Questions
      1. Radioactive contaminants found in coal ash
      2. One step towards faster organic electronics
  1. After reading/annotating/answering questions, students will share with their shoulder partner what they have read. Each must write down 3 facts about the OTHER article.
  2. After sharing with shoulder partners we will have a class discussion about each article, each accompanied with a short video to tie in what we have learned:
    1. Radioactive Ash
    2. Organic Electronics
